Ep 193: Task Blocking

In this special episode of Game Changers, you go 1-on-1 with Michael LeJeune to talk about Task Blocking. Each time I share how many projects I’m working on with folks, the reaction is always the same. When do you sleep? Trust me, I get plenty of sleep. My secret to productivity and time management is actually very simple. I use a process that I call Task Blocking. Everything that I work on becomes a “project” with “tasks” and those tasks go on my calendar. In this podcast, I break down how I use task blocking to manage over a dozen new projects at any given time.

Ep 191: Your GovCon Marketing Strategy – Part 2

In this episode, we conclude a two-part series about Your GovCon Marketing Strategy by talking with Chad Rodriguez. Chad talks about his experience using a third-party (Flourish) to build and execute their marketing strategy. Having a professional marketing strategy has allowed their company to stand out in the market and reach their target audience. Chad is also a huge fan of monitoring the analytics on the back-end of all of their marketing. This allows them to know what’s effective and what’s not so that they can adjust their marketing methods, strategy, and message to be more effective.

Ep 190: Your GovCon Marketing Strategy – Part 1

In this episode, we talked with Megan Nivens-Tannett about Your GovCon Marketing Strategy. The average government contractor completely skips over creating a marketing strategy for their GovCon business. Most use what I would call the brute force method. This involves cranking out RFPs with the hope that if you just respond to enough, you will eventually win something. A well-thought-out marketing strategy will help you understand your market, increase your chances of winning an RFP, and ultimately accelerate your success in the government market.

You’re Not Ready for Government Contracting

If you are struggling to win contracts/RFPs, one of the most common reasons for this is that you simply aren’t ready to be a government contractor. This isn’t an arena you just jump into unequipped. It takes time to make sure everything is in order. You need to ensure you have the proper and STRONG fundamentals needed to WIN.

Think about Karate Kid for a minute. Daniel wanted to learn how to fight. More specifically, he wanted to learn how to throw a punch, but that wasn’t the focus of Mr. Miyagi’s training. He started with the basics. Most government contractors SKIP all the basics and go right into a karate tournament by chasing an RFP without any knowledge of the customer, understanding the value they provide, or any relationships with the customer or partners. The result is that they get beat up over and over and most eventually quit.

When you pause and take the time to learn the basics, the skills, and the fundamentals of GovCon for your business, you will be more successful at the contracts you choose to pursue. Learning is mandatory…..but HOW you learn is your choice. You can learn the RIGHT WAY or the hard way. Choose wisely.
